1/10

Scale

Standard 1/10 scale rear-wheel drive drift cars. RCP P-tile surface. Spec tyre: Yokomo DRA throughout.

3ft

Track Width

The full circuit is 3ft wide throughout — tandem-capable at every point. Run side by side or solo.

On the night

What to expect.

Drift Night is an open practice session — no heats, no qualifying, no pressure. Turn up, get your car out, and drive. The track runs throughout the session and you can put as many laps in as your batteries allow.

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Regulars will have seen new faces plenty of times before. If it is your first session, say so — someone will walk you through the setup, the track rules, and the spec tyre requirement before you head out.

There is no hot lap culture here. Tandem running is encouraged when both drivers are comfortable with it, but it is never obligatory. Drive at your own pace and focus on learning the circuit.

Kit list

What to bring.

  • Your car — 1/10 scale RWD drift car, fully charged and ready to run.
  • Yokomo DRA tyres — the spec tyre is mandatory. Bring at least two spare sets; they wear faster than you expect on your first night.
  • Batteries — two or three 7.4v 2S LiPo packs gives you a solid evening of running. Bring a charger if you have one.
  • Basic tools — hex drivers (1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm), a body pin remover, and a handful of spare screws.
  • Eye protection — recommended for all track-side participants.
  • £8 — cash or card for the door fee.
The surface

RCP P-tile.

Our track is laid on RCP P-tile interlocking panels — the same surface used at national and international RC drift competition level. Consistent, low-grip, and forgiving enough for beginners while rewarding enough for experienced drivers.

The low-grip characteristic is intentional. It makes the car slide more predictably, gives you more time to react, and means that learning to drift is genuinely achievable in a single session for most people.

The tyre

Yokomo DRA.

All Drift Nights run on a single spec tyre: the Yokomo DRA. A spec tyre means every car runs the same compound, which removes tyre selection as a performance variable and keeps the focus on driving skill.

DRA tyres are available in the shop. New to drift? Buy two sets to start — you will use them.

Common questions

Before you come.

Do I need to book?

No. Drift Night is walk-in only. Turn up at St Albans Community Hall any time between 7pm and 10pm on a Friday, pay on the door, and get on track. No advance booking, no registration, no waiting list.

What car do I need?

A 1/10 scale rear-wheel drive drift car. The Tamiya TT-02D is the most popular entry-level choice and works perfectly on our track. See the Getting Started guide or the drift page for recommendations at every budget.

I have never drifted before. Is that okay?

Completely fine. Drift Night regularly sees first-timers alongside experienced drivers and everyone starts somewhere. The low-grip surface is actually more forgiving for beginners than a high-grip surface would be. Turn up, say hello, and someone will help you get started.

Do I have to run Yokomo DRA tyres?

Yes. The DRA is the mandatory spec tyre for all Drift Nights. It applies to everyone, regardless of car or experience level. DRA tyres are available in the shop if you need to stock up before the session.

Where exactly is the venue?

St Albans Community Hall, St Albans, Hertfordshire. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram for the exact address and any updates on session dates.

Is there a maximum number of drivers?

Sessions are open until the venue reaches a comfortable capacity. We have never had to turn anyone away at a regular Drift Night, but follow us on social media for any announcements about particularly busy sessions or venue changes.
